Dave L. Pearson is president of Pearson Communication Group, Inc., a full service marketing, communication and political consulting company and Pearson's Professional Pet Services, a full service, professional canine training and pet services company serving the Arvada, Broomfield, Golden, Northglenn & West Metro Denver area.

Pearson Communication Group, Inc. specializes in assisting candidates, campaigns and committees, and other organizations, in developing the strategy and tactics to win elections and/or influence public policy.

Most of Pearson's career focused on communications and politics. He was Western Regional Political Director for the Republican National Committee for the 1994 and 1996 cycles. Pearson managed his first political campaign in 1976 and has managed or consulted with hundreds of campaigns since.

Pearson was involved in virtually every significant political contest in the Rocky Mountain states for the Republican National Committee, including congressional races in 1994 leading to GOP control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.

Later in life, Pearson became disillusioned by the political world and he reverted to his first love, dogs.

Dave Pearson's interest in canine obedience training began at an early age. As a youngster, Pearson worked summers and weekends on a sheep ranch where the number of sheep ranged up to 50,000 head.

"You don't move 50,000 head of sheep without dogs," Pearson says, "And I was constantly amazed by their abilities."

On the sheep ranch, there were always lots of dogs. They were not pets and were not treated as such. They were co-workers with a job to do and they did it.

Pearson was fascinated by how the dogs trained each other and has never forgotten that lesson. Dogs are pack animals and there is always a leader to impose discipline and lead the others. Most of the dogs were mixed breeds, but all had herding instincts. They were most likely combinations of Australian Cattle Dogs, Blue Healers and maybe some Border Collie.

"I feel like I understand the pooches. They're like kids. They like structure and direction."

Most of the ranch's full time hands were of Basque descent. The Basque hands where the primary dog handlers and trainers when needed. Since most of the Basque hands spoke, as their first language, Basque, the dogs were most often trained in the Basque language. Since Pearson did not speak nor understand most of the Basque language, he persuaded the Basque hands to use whistles and hand signals with the dogs.

After this seminal experience, Pearson maintained his interest in canine behavior, and owned and trained personal animals for the next several decades, while pursuing a career in political consulting.

Later in life, Pearson decided that he needed and wanted to return to his roots. At the age of 56, Pearson enrolled in Animal Behavior College for the purpose of earning an official certification in canine obedience.

"I figured that if I could handle politicians, handling dogs would be a piece of cake. And they are. Unfortunately, most of the work is not with the dogs, it is with the people who own them."

In addition, Pearson volunteers with the Table Mountain Animal Shelter in the P. H. A. T (Psychology, Health and Training) program working with dominant breeds. (Pit Bulls, Rottweillers, etc)

Pearson now is offering his services to assist families in overcoming issues with their pet canines. In addition to canine training, Pearson strives to bring a professional edge to the world of pet care. Today, many people treat their pets like their kids. "So many people asked me if I watched dogs, that I thought I should, especially since finding a professional sitter was always a task for me with my personal pets."

"I detest having to call some bureaucracy and having to 'push one for English' and then be guided into phone Hades. It took more than 20 minutes to report a gas leak recently and I thought, I could have been blown up while pushing those damn buttons, just trying to find a human to talk to.

I pledge to you to answer the phone myself or if I'm out with a pooch or pet, you will get a real, honest to goodness answering machine and I'll return the call as soon as I return.

Pearson currently lives in Arvada with Louie, his Norwegian Elkhound, Taco, a retired Greyhound racer and his wife, Carolyn. Carolyn is also a dog lover and is a certified massage therapist. They spend time with their grand kids and their dog, Koda, an "enthusiastic" Norwegian Elkhound.
